Poole of Light

1913 The North of England is suffering from industrial decline and poverty is everywhere. People are moving to find new jobs and population growth in Leeds is at a tipping point.

One economic migrant, Jeremiah Poole, is a ten-year old boy whose world is about to be turned upside down. Flung into an abusive family he does everything he can to protect himself from harm. He survives his childhood but the impact has far reaching consequences for the rest of his life.

Poole of Light chronicles Jeremiah’s rise from absolute poverty to privilege, wealth and the glamorous 1930s movies business. But in a world where nothing is as it seems, and with another war approaching, he struggles to know who he can trust.
